The government launches a comprehensive digital literacy programme targeting 50,000 schools across the country, equipping students with essential technology skills.
The federal government has launched a nationwide digital literacy programme that will equip 50,000 public schools with computer labs and technology training. The programme, one of the largest education initiatives in Pakistan's history, aims to prepare students for the digital economy.
The initiative includes provision of computer equipment, internet connectivity, teacher training and a customised digital literacy curriculum. Each participating school will receive a minimum of 10 computers, a printer and reliable internet access through the national broadband programme.
Teachers will receive intensive training in technology integration, coding fundamentals and digital pedagogy. The training programme, developed in partnership with leading technology companies, includes both in-person workshops and ongoing online support.
The programme is expected to reach over 15 million students in its first five years, with a particular focus on underserved rural areas and girls' education. Research consistently shows that digital literacy is a key factor in economic mobility and workforce readiness.
Education experts have praised the initiative while noting that sustained funding and teacher support will be critical to its long-term success.
